Even though there are many automatic installers for plugins and scripts we only describe the manual installation here. Both paragraphs need to be followed to have Retrospect run as a plugin.

Install Retrospect in Kodi

In order to install Retrospect as an addon you need to install the Retrospect repository.

The following needs to be done once to make the repository available in Kodi:

  1. Download the Retrospect repository (not Retrospect itself) from the download page
  2. If your Kodi is on another system, upload the ZIP file to your Kodi system
  3. Start Kodi and go to System -> Settings -> Add-ons
  4. Select the Install from a zip file option
  5. Browse to the location of the repository zip file and select it
  6. After the installation is complete go to Get Addons and select the Retrospect Add-ons. There you will find “Retrospect” under Video Add-ons.
  7. Select it and then click Install. This will download Retrospect and install it.

If all went well, Retrospect should appear under the System -> Addons -> Enabled Addons -> Video Add-ons. It will show up within Kodi under Videos -> Video Add-ons.

Adding plugins sources in Kodi GUI

Plugin sources can automatically be added from within Kodi via the “Add Source” command accessible from the root folder of “Videos”, “Music”, “Pictures”, and “Programs” section of Kodi. The actual file that is invoked by Kodi is “plugins\default.py” (this “default.py” file must be present for the plugin to show up in “Add Source” the dialog).
Plugins will show up automatically in Library Mode.

You may also use “Video Plugins”, in the video window root folder to view the plugins present in the Kodi video plugins folder, and the respective links in the music and pictures windows.

  1. Start Kodi
  2. Go into the “Video” section if you like to add a video-plugin, the “Music” section if you like to add a music-plugin, etc. In this example we chosen to install a video-plugin.
  3. Select “Add Source”
  4. Select “Browse”
  5. Select “VideoPlugins”
  6. Select the video plugin you want to add from the list and press enter.
  7. Select “OK”
  8. Select “OK”

Your installed plugin will now be displayed in the list of available sources.

Common user errors when trying to add a plugin

Do not try to add a plugin as a normal file by browsing your harddrive for the plugins folder. Instead, after choosing “Add Source“, select {Video|Music} Plugins and then the plugin you want to add as a source.
