Even though there are many automatic installers for plugins and scripts we only describe the manual installation here. Both paragraphs need to be followed to have XBMC Online TV run as a plugin.

Install XBMC Online TV in XBMC (Dharma/Eden/Frodo/Gotham)

In order to install XBMC Online TV as an addon you need to install the XBMC Online TV repository.

The following needs to be done once to make the repository available in XBMC:

  1. Download the XBMC Online TV repository (not XBMC Online TV itself) from the download page
  2. If your XBMC is on another system, upload the ZIP file to your XBMC system
  3. Start XBMC and go to System -> Settings -> Add-ons
  4. Select the Install from a zip file option
  5. Browse to the location of the repository zip file and select it
  6. After the installation is complete go to Get Addons and select the XBMC Online TV Add-ons. There you will find “XBMC Online TV” under Program Add-ons
  7. Select it and then click Install. This will download XBMC Online TV once, but it will appear both as script and plugin!

If all went well, XBMC Online TV should appear twice under the System -> Addons -> Enabled Addons -> Program Add-ons. Once for the script and once for the plugin version.

  1. The plugin version will appear under Videos -> Video Add-ons
  2. The script version will appear under Programs

Install it as a script

Download the most recent version of the XBMC Online TV zip file (Not the repository). Extract the contents of the XOT archives in your XBMC scripts folder. The location can be found here:

Q:\scripts\

Running XOT as a script

The basic way of launching a script through a skin’s sub-menu button, is to go to the sub-menu button (located in the bottom right hand corner and looks like a little box, in the default skin) and when inside the sub-menu (it will open when you press the “A” button on your Xbox controller or the button on your remote control that is used to execute highlighted items) select the entry “Scripts” the same way. This will take you to the “Scripts” directory of your XBMC folder.

Install XBMC Online TV as plugin

Adding plugins sources in XBMC GUI

Plugin sources can automatically be added from within XBMC via the “Add Source” command accessible from the root folder of “Videos”, “Music”, “Pictures”, and “Programs” section of XBMC. The actual file that is invoked by XBMC is “plugins\default.py” (this “default.py” file must be present for the plugin to show up in “Add Source” the dialog).
Plugins will show up automatically in Library Mode.

You may also use “Video Plugins”, in the video window root folder to view the plugins present in the XBMC video plugins folder, and the respective links in the music and pictures windows.

  1. Start XBMC
  2. Go into the “Video” section if you like to add a video-plugin, the “Music” section if you like to add a music-plugin, etc. In this example we chosen to install a video-plugin.
  3. Select “Add Source”
  4. Select “Browse”
  5. Select “VideoPlugins”
  6. Select the video plugin you want to add from the list and press enter.
  7. Select “OK”
  8. Select “OK”

Your installed plugin will now be displayed in the list of available sources.

Common user errors when trying to add a plugin

Do not try to add a plugin as a normal file by browsing your harddrive for the plugins folder. Instead, after choosing “Add Source“, select {Video|Music} Plugins and then the plugin you want to add as a source.
