XOT-Uzg.v3 stands for XBMC Online TV – Uitzendinggemist. It is an XBox Media Center script which allows playback of streams a number of online TV stream sites.
It originally started with streams from www.uitzendinggemist.nl which is a Dutch site. The script got it’s name from this site: ‘Uitzending gemist’ means ‘missed episode’ in Dutch.
Script or plugin or addon
XBMC supports two methods of custom content:
- Plugins: you browse them like you browse any other set of folders and files. They appear like the default XBMC views with thumbs, sorting and information. You can find them under the Video Add-ons.
- Scripts: actually starts a small application within XBMC and can be found under Program Add-ons. Such an application has its own interface with menus, buttons and animations.
With the introduction of plugins, I converted XOT into both! Depending on how it’s called from XBMC. Visit the installation page for more information on how to install it as either a plugin or scripts.
XOT was originally designed to be a script and the plugin functionality was only there because some people liked it over the script version. With the plugin possibilities in XBMC becoming more and more advanced, the focus of XOT-Uzg.v3 is shifting from script to plugin. Nowadays the development is mainly done on the plugin and the script version is just maintained and kept up to date.
None-Xbox versions of XBMC use addons instead of plugins or scripts. XOT-Uzg.v3 is also available as an addon. The big benefit of the addon version is that it provides both the script and the plugin version in a single download.
XOT-Framework vs. XOT-Uzg
In 2009 more people started to use XOT-Uzg for their own channels. That introduced the problem that users from those derived-XOT’s came to use with their problems. There were even derived-XOT’s that used our update url!
So the XOT-Framework was introduced. The framework contains the basics from XOT-Uzg.v3 script minus the channels and skins and it is meant for others to use in their own streaming script. However, the XOT-Frameworks is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-Non-Commercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 Unported License. So everybody is allowed to use it for non-commercial use, but not to change any part of it. This solved the problem of issues with derived-XOT’s because they now need to use the unchanged XOT-Framework.
